Tuesday, 9 January 2018
Wether you are preparing your next field trip, your family vacation or you just want to now what have been collected around you house, searching for a specific location on the old Explorer is easy.
- Choose one of the ‘Location’ filter: ‘country’, ‘State/Province’, ‘Municipality’, ‘Locality’, depending on the level of precision you need. Note: using the ‘Locality’ will give a more complete set, but will take longer to load. Do not hesitate to use different filter (ex: Municipality and Locality at the same time)
- Type the location you are looking for or choose one in the filters
- Click on ‘Add Filter’
- Click on the ‘Search’ button
- Wait for all the occurrences to load…
Warning: The filters are used to search in specific terms within the data, but if the term is not used or filled in, the occurrence will, of course, not be loaded, even if a coordinates is available.
In the new Explorer, it is also easy to search for a specific location.
-
In the Simple search, for a search at the country or state/province level:
- In the menu on the left of the page, click on ‘Location’, which will open the menu
- Click on a location (‘Country’ or ‘StateProvince’ only) or on ‘Choose more’, which will open a pop-up window
- Click on the location you want to visualize
- Wait for the data to load
- From there, you can view the data on the map, as a list of occurrences, or as images, and you can have access to some statistics.(note: there is a bug with the map view for some occurrences, we are working on solving the problem)
-
In the Advanced search, for a search at a smaller level:
- Click on the ‘ShapeFile Search’ tab
- From this tab, you can either import a shapefile (WKT) or draw on the map to limit the location you want. Warning: there is a bug if you use the square tool. It will load all data outside the area instead of inside. We are working on solving this problem.
- In the pop-up window, click on ‘Search for records in this area’
- Wait for the data to load
- From there, you can view the data on the map, as a list of occurrences, or as images, and you can have access to some statistics.
